SYNOPSIS
Ismail, a poor devil out of work, lives in the suburbs on the shores of the Dardanelles. Despite all his attempts to find a job, he always comes away empty-handed, partly because, according to the gangers who hire labour, he is “too well educated”. When the poor man finds out that his wife prostitutes herself without his knowledge, he throws her out of the house.
CRITICAL NOTE
“(…) Lucid, ruthless, accurate in characterization: a piece of textbook cinema where Güney depicts a confined microcosm, but behind it we can read the macrocosm of society. Therefore the government banned the release of Düsman.” (Davide Ferrario)
