SYNOPSIS
Romeo, a popular singer and musician in the seventies, is dumped by his girlfriend. One evening, in a fast-food, Romeo meets a waitress named Iris, an Italian girl who has emigrated to Belgium with her father. Little by little Romeo finds out that Iris can sing and write verse and, after much hesitation, he suggests her to try the singing career. The two decide to create a group, they rehearse in a recording studio and get a signing, they are called “Iris Blond and the Freezer” and perform successfully in many places. Romeo falls in love with Iris, but she isn’t sure to return his love…
CRITICAL NOTE
“Once more Verdone’s new film makes us believe that’s the greatest one: we can enjoy the Belgian setting, without being overcome by it, and the ruthless softness through which he portrays (or self-portrays) the main characters. As an interpreter Carlo has even more control over his means and has sometimes acquired a sharp resentful tone he didn’t possess before. As to Claudia Gerini, after Viaggi di nozze, she has proved to have real talent, she acts with fervour and fun, she moves at her ease in musical turns: and if we had a cinema to hold her, we could really say that a star is born.” (Tullio Kezich, Corriere della Sera)
