SYNOPSIS

A missionary priest in Africa is overwhelmed with a deep existential crisis of faith. Back in Rome, as suggested by his superiors, he decides to pause for reflection in order to recover the family warmth and overcome his problems. However, his return will have a lot of bitter surprises in store for him, since he will be trapped in a schizophrenic society completely without human relations, with his family - his father Albert, his brother Luigi and his sister Beatrice -  too focused on themselves while ignoring his problems. Then, one day, into the already complicated world of Mascolo family suddenly Lara breaks…

CRITICAL NOTE

“In his new film Carlo Verdone’s ability can only be considered colossal. (…) The direction techniques are clear and thanks to the successful counterpoint of photography, art direction and music, the group portrait – despite the almost theatrical structure – never lapses into spray moralism and represents even an antithesis to the fake court of the debates on tv. (…) if we were not able to catch the elegant sadness of a film like this, as spectators we would feel unsuited for enjoying an Italian cinema honest first of all with itself.” (Valerio Caprara, Il Mattino)
