SYNOPSIS
Carlo Piergentili is an oboist and together with his wife Serena, a cellist, are members of the Spoleto Orchestra. Carlo’s mother is dying and so he has to inform his sister Silvia - so restless and wandering as he is gentle and peaceful life-loving – and ask her to come back home. She receives the telegram in Greece, but she returns only shortly before the burial. Since then the unfortunate and generous brother is plunged into deep trouble, as Silvia installs in his house. While Serena is in crisis because of Silvia’s nosiness, Silvia asks his brother to go with her to Budapest in order to recover her son. Carlo agrees and, after several vicissitudes, the two brothers manage to recover the child…
CRITICAL NOTE
“(…) Sketched with a light hand, almost uncommon for Italian comedy, Me and my sister manages to play on important subjects (including the mother’s death, which represents a sad autobiographic reference to Verdone’s life) with both hilarious and melancholy slant. While not coming to the fore, the side characters are sketched with amused creativity: the mature in love Galeazzo Benti and his conformist wife Elena Sofia Ricci. On the whole it comes out a note of truth, which results in a paradoxical and burlesque apology of blood ties.” (Tullio Kezich, Il filmnovanta: cinque anni al cinema: 1986-1990)
