SYNOPSIS
At the age of eight, Marcel is abandoned by her mother. He is raised by his grandfather Pascual, who drives him into a world of fantasy and give him the love and care that his mother couldn’t. Years later, when Marcel turns twenty-one, he thinks that the time of live by his own his arrived. He’s got plans with his girlfriend and wants to leave his home. But at that time Pascual has turned old and starts showing the symptoms of a disease that will affect Marcel’s plans dramatically. He is sick of Alzheimer. Marcel will have to postpone his plans in order to take care of his grandfather... the only real relative he ever had.
THE DIRECTOR: FREDDY MAS FRANQUEZA
Born in Pego in 1979, he got his degree in audiovisual communication at the Universidad Cardenal Herrera- CEU in Moncada. Moved to Berlin, he got his degree in cinematographic direction and scriptwriting first at Künste University and then at DFFB Deustch Academie von Fernsehen und Film Berlin), university of cinema and television. In 2001 he has directed his first short film Inconscientes, shown at Berlinale 2002 in the section Panorama-Kurzfilm, with which he wins prizes in the Festivals of Hannover, Amburgo and Benetùsser. In 2002 he is the first assistant of the director Wolfang Becker for Good bye Lenin!, the next year by Jutta Brückner for Hitlerkantate and Vicent Monsonís for the TV movies Vida Robada (2005) and Mi último verano con Marian (2006). He has directed two video clips for the groups Sussy Psicopatik and Mr. Smoke. Amanecer de un sueño is his first feature film.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
I wanted the image to be sincere and true, but also poetic. This was achieved by the photographer, Carles Guzi. He provided the naturalistic semplicity that the story required, a neo-realistic touch. Poetry came with the camera movement and the place in wich we repeated the camera settings. These were planned in order to give the film a rhyme both narrative and image aspects. Regarding the sound, I felt the need to have silence leading the soundtrack of the film. To me, silence is the best way to show the feelings of the characters, but also the stuble addition of detailed sounds or musical counterpoints.
If I had the chance, I never used a new camera position. I rather worked deeper on the mise en scene, the acting and the camera movements.
