SYNOPSIS
A group of friends meet up for dinner. This is one of the evenings during which these 40-somethings will remember the carefree existence of the past two decades, now edged out by everyday concerns and the somewhat perplexing spectre of the beginning of the rest of their lives.
CRITICAL NOTE
"Ferzan Ozpetec with Saturn in opposition has realised his most hazardous film. We do not refer to the measured) allusions to Dico or to therapeutic persistence, but to the courage to express pure feelings, thus obliging the spectator to reflect without comforting mediations on love and friendship, pain and death, separations. In other films feelings where important but Ozpetec reached them through complex intrigues, delegating a female character to solve the mystery. Here there is nothing like this. (..) The implicit traps in the representations of such events are evident. Well aware of this, Ozpetec and Gianni Romoli write realistic, accurate dialogues, ‘cut’ the situations at the right point; they can even afford a moment of bitter humour. Among the other merits of the script, strong and modest, there is that of having united in a choral work an heterogeneous cast, where well-experienced actors alternate with TV characters, to say nothing of incomparable Serra Yilmaz. Anyway we must recognise that the film suffers a descendant moment after the hospital break. But Ozpetec can still give us a final rise turning the return of friendship and solidarity in a tennis table match painfully cheerful, being the paraphrase, with a reversed sense, of the tennis match with which ended Antonioni’s Blow up."
