SYNOPSIS
Giovanna is a bookeeper in a company which packs chickens. She is married to a man who has a precarious job. First she starts being curious about a young man who lives in the block opposite hers, and then she falls in love with him. The relationship between the two becomes much stronger when she starts to find out more about him from an old man who bursts into their lives.
CRITICAL NOTE
"Ozpetec loves stories and in his film he tells many, real, under track or phantasmatic. He makes audacious gestures: panoramic shots starting from today and mingling in a ball from the past, Giovanna’s revelation that on the point of being unfaithful, spies herself in the facing window. These are all things that, if they turn out badly, may destroy a film, but that the director can firmly manage. No arid didacticism in dealing with the Holocaust, a light tenderness in telling the passion for sweets joining Giovanna and Simone, a recklessness in mingling melodrama and the author’s start such as in Giovanna’s final run on the stairs. There is such a passion and compassion that in fact not even Simone’s last sentence to the woman sounds excessive: ‘Don’t be content with surviving, you must ‘demand’ to live in a better world and not only dream of it."
