SYNOPSIS
Montevideo, Uruguay. The tupamaros kidnap two men: Philip Michael Santore, a USA citizen and director of A.I.D. (Agency for International Development), and Fernando Campos, Brazilian consul. After a few days, an officer of the Ministry of Agriculture is taken prisoner, too. The rebels, while questioning Santore in particular and proving his responsibilities in the training of the police and in the repressions in Brazil, in the Dominican Republic and in Uruguay, demand from the government the release of political prisoners. The press, effectively represented by Carlos Ducas, and the Parliament gets upset…
CRITICAL NOTE
“(…) Exiled from Greece for the colonels’ dictatorship, Gosta Gavras knows from his own experience the meaning of the intervention of the ‘amerikan’ power at certain levels.
